Blair Witch – Review

Blair Witch is a game based on the popular found footage film by the same name. You are a police officer with a traumatic past and a few skeletons in the closet. You set out into a forest, infamous for disappearances, in search of a young boy who has gone missing, You have a dog alongside you who helps you find clues and is always a warm presence in an otherwise unknown and harsh forest environment. Blair Witch is an absolutely stunning looking game, with hauntingly beautiful atmosphere and visual design.

The gameplay is walking simulator-esque with some fun puzzles. The horror elements are fairly well done and, except for some stretched out bits near the end, the game is spooky throughout. You character, Ellis’s story is also pretty interesting, and the revelations near the end add a lot of weight to the psychological nature of the game.

There are some severe performance issues though, with constant framerate dips, and even a few hard crashes. And the story does end a bit abruptly, with no real conclusions about the boy you were looking for. Still, Blair Witch is a pretty compelling horror experience, and is worth the price of admission.

Pros: Looks great, spooky atmosphere Dog mechanics are an good addition Clever use of found footage

Cons: Performance issues Ending is stretched out and inconslusive

Score – 8/10
